Product Description
Unprecedented speed is now available over your existing network cabling Built to run the fastest video, publishing, and database network applications, the Instant Gigabit Network Adapter is a high performance network adapter for PCI local bus computers. Boasting an incredible maximum data throughput of 2000 megabits-per-second in full duplex mode, it includes a 10BaseT/100BaseTX/1000BaseTX port, which means that you can begin integrating Gigabit noweven if you dont plan on upgrading to a 1000Mbps network right away. The Instant Gigabit Network Adapter is Windows Plug-and-Play compatible. The card also runs on most operating systems, including Windows 2000. Wake-On-LAN support is built inyou can wake up your workstations from anywhere on the network Built-in support for the widest range of PCI mother-boards, networking hardware, and software means you dont have to worry about compatibility.SimilarProduct

Easy Install - Great Performance
by .. Jeff Richardson (Tacoma, WA USA)
Please note that going to Gigabit will not increase your download speeds from the Internet. The speeds you get from the Internet are based on your connection speed to your Cable/DSL modem. Also please note that most 10/100 cards are MORE than adequate to handle most DSL/Cable speeds. The people out there that have a faster connection to the Internet usually know a lot about these types of things and can weigh for themselves the pros and cons of moving to Gigabit.
However, if you have a home network that is running on a Gigabit switch/router/hub and have at least one other Gigabit computer sitting on your network, you will see VERY fast transfers of files between those two computers. Transfers of files between Gigabit computers and 10/100 computers will be the same as before. In other words you have to have at least two Gigabit devices on a Gigabit network to see Gigabit speeds between those two computers.
I put this card into my Windows 2000 server and created a Gigabit network with the Linksys EG008W 8 Port switch. The router I use is also a Linksys, the Wireless-G WRT54G. My primary machine copies files to and from my server at speed about 5-6 times faster than they used to. Over all network performance does seem to move a bit faster, but this is likely due to the fact that I have isolated 10/100 machines from the 10/100/1000 machines on the network.
Linksys doesn't always have the best prices, but reliability and performance outweigh price for me any day.

Excellent Product & Value

I needed more speed on my network. I run a home based business and have 8 computers on the network. The computers could handle a large amount of data quickly. The standard speed switches I had could only operate at 10/100. I looked into and purchased two Gigabit Switches (16 and 5 ports). I also purchased the corresponding network adapter cards (that's a no brainer). It was one of the best technology investments I made in 2006.

As the description says, this network adapter flies when surfing the net. Easy to install and fits nicely into my box. A
10/100 versus Gigabit Protection
by .. Jim (PA)
Purchased card and installed drivers provided on CD with product. Had problem with Ethernet LAN wiring that runs through my surge protection device APC BX1500LCD (which only supports 10/100 pass-through speed). Solution was to have Ethernet bypass APC BX1500LCD to allow Gigabit LAN speed. Purchasing an APC PNET1GB device to add RJ-45 protection back for PC. Keep this in mind when connecting you PC to switch / router if you are not getting Gigabit LAN after installing card and drivers from CD.
