Problem-free except for the noise
by .. D. Mccauley (COLLEYVILLE, TX, US)
The Iomega Home Media 34571 is a problem-free device. I have 3 Windows XP machines on my home network. Dint require any software for installing because I just mapped it to my drive which made it all the more easier. Say cheese for my wired network. Looks-wise, must laud it for its sleekness. The backup software is pretty sound. I am in the worry-free zone coz am assured of the security of my files. I get to share the music and video on my home network as well. Also played back some high resolution videos, was thrilled that it nevr snapped. But this one too is noisy, I guess most of them are!!
Great Home Network Storage
by .. R. Brockwell (Southwestern Florida, USA)
This product performed as expected. It was easy to setup and works great. For the money, a true bargain in network connected storage. I would def. buy this product again.
Easy, Fast, Great addition to my home network
by .. Al Jeweler ()
I use QB on my home network, and have always been fearful that I would lose my data if my computer crashed. I had been backing-up onto another computer on my network. I decided to try a network drive, independant of any of my computers. The set-up was amazingly easy, and after 2 months of use, I am really pleased with this drive!
Software not compatible with 64bit
by .. G. Taylor ()
Had to call support to install on windows 7 64 bit. Software does not work with 64 bit but the drive works with 64 bit and the device just becomes a networked device with an ip address. So, the backup software is non functional on 64 bit , but the drive has worked and performs ok.
OK Box, Rotten Quality Control
by .. N. Condon ()
When I first received this drive, it seemed like a typical NAS product: It worked just fine, once you figure out how to deal with the stupid, intrusive software. (Note to HDD companies: We don't want or need your useless, badly-designed software on our computers; we just want to plug in the drive and have it work!) About three months after I purchased it, during which time it saw light-to-moderate usage, a request for a file from it caused the horrible clicking noise of a dying hard drive to emanate from the box. This was unfortunate, but HDD failures do happen, I guess. I immediately ordered a replacement to serve while I worked out the warranty situation. Upon plugging in said replacement, it immediately emitted the same dead HDD clicking noise, and it never spun up. One failure I can forgive, but two starts to look like a pattern. The drive got returned, and I'll steer clear of Iomega products for a while.
